POLINOX® Convolute Wheel
POLINOX Convolute WheelPOLINOX® convolute wheels produce matte surface finishes. POLINOX® convolute wheels are made of spiral-shaped, non-woven abrasive which is wound around a core and foamed up. The foam supports the non-woven component and positively impacts its service life and abrasive performance. This particular bond results in non-woven wheels with a very good surface finish, high stock removal rate and long service life. These properties are particularly apparent when deburring, blending, finishing and polishing soft metals, alloyed and high-alloy steels, in addition to titanium alloys. The wheels can be used on stationary machines and bench grinders, as well as portable power tools like straight grinders. Dressing the wheels allows them to adapt to different workpiece geometries. Medium-soft variant with increased flexibility and extended service life, for tough blending and polishing applications. Well suited to machining contours.Special featuresCost-effective due to high abrasive performance and durability.Produces very good surface quality. Can be profiled as desired, enabling optimal adjustment to the contour.ApplicationsCleaningDeburringStep-by-step fine grindingRougheningStructuring (matt finishing, brush matting and satin finishing)Surface workMaterials that can be workedStainless steel (INOX)Steel materials with a hardness > 54 HRCSteels up to 370 HV (< 38 HRC)ThermoplasticsTitaniumTitanium alloysZincAluminumBrassBronzeCast steelCobalt-based alloysCopperFibre-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP, CRP)Hardened, heat-treated steels over 370 HV (38 HRC)Nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconell and Hastelloy)Recommendations for useConsiderably reduce peripheral speed for work on materials with poor heat-conducting properties, e.g. titanium and stainless steel. For the best performance, use with a recommended peripheral speed of 4,000 SFPM. This provides an ideal compromise between stock removal rate, surface quality, thermal load on the workpiece and tool wear.SafetyFor safety reasons, the maximum permitted rotational speed indicated must never be exceeded. The spiral-wound construction requires that these wheels only be run in a single indicated direction. The non-woven abrasive material is arranged in multiple radial flaps, with abrasive cloth interlayers. This flap structure improves stock removal and achieves a coarser surface finish. The product is designed for working on medium-sized surfaces with speed-adjustable angle grinders and fillet weld grinders, and can be mounted directly onto the drive system's spindle without the need for additional clamping devices. This product is mainly used for work on large surfaces.Special featuresConforms to contours due to high flexibility.Cool grinding and low thermal load on the workpiece. The open structure and high flexibility of the non-woven material prevents loading.ApplicationsCleaningDeburringStep-by-step fine grindingRougheningStructuring (matt finishing, brush matting and satin finishing)Surface workMaterials that can be workedStainless steel (INOX)Steel materials with a hardness > 54 HRCSteels up to 370 HV (< 38 HRC)ThermoplasticsTitaniumTitanium alloysZincAluminumBrassBronzeCast steelCobalt-based alloysCopperFibre-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP, CRP)Hardened, heat-treated steels over 370 HV (38 HRC)Nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconell and Hastelloy)Recommendations for useFor the best performance, use with a recommended peripheral speed of 2,000-4,000 SFPM. This provides an ideal compromise between stock removal rate, surface quality, thermal load on the workpiece and flap wheel/cross buff wear.SafetyThe maximum permitted peripheral speed is 6,300 SFPM.For safety reasons, the maximum permitted rotational speed indicated must never be exceeded.Technical informationDia.
