Felt flap discs are used for pre-polishing and high-gloss polishing on medium-sized to large components. Due to their hardness and flexibility, felt flap discs are used when the exact form of geometric shapes has to be maintained. As a general rule, diamond polishing pastes and polishing paste bars are used for this.

Special features

  • Conforms to contours due to high flexibility.
  • Can be freely shaped, meaning they can be used on complicated geometries.
  • Low thermal load on the workpiece.

Applications

  • Polishing

Materials that can be worked

  • Stainless steel (INOX)
  • Steel materials with a hardness > 54 HRC
  • Steels up to 370 HV (< 38 HRC)
  • Thermoplastics
  • Titanium
  • Titanium alloys
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Bronze
  • Cast steel
  • Cobalt-based alloys
  • Copper
  • Fibre-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP, CRP)
  • Hardened, heat-treated steels over 370 HV (38 HRC)
  • Nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconell and Hastelloy)

Recommendations for use

  • Use the soft type for buffing and processing workpieces with lots of contours. If a very fine finish is desired, the hard and soft types can be used successively.
